3 Easy Ways To Avoid Identity Theft
Here are three easy ways to avoid identity theft:
- Never give out your date of birth to anybody online unless you're filing your taxes, applying for a passport, or doing something else official.
- Never, never, NEVER click on a link in an email from "your bank". Any email you receive from your bank, no matter how official looking it is, is a scam. If you're ever in doubt, check with your bank directly, or visit the official bank website by typing the website address in yourself - never click on a link to save time. These links often install viruses that can steal your bank account information.
- If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
Always remember that scammers are clever. They run scams for a living, and they're good at it!
Many are fooled by the bank account scam in particular as they often play on fear by using statements like, "we have closed your bank account due to suspicious activity". It's hard to not fall for that - but remember this: Your bank doesn't know your email address. You've never given it to them, so they can't possibly email you.
I hope that helps.
